Our latest update to Solo gives your websites an even better chance at ranking higher on Google, but there are a few important steps you’ll need to take first to make that happen.

When your website is newly created, Google doesn’t automatically know it exists. It needs signals to find, understand, and rank your site. One of the most important of these signals comes from your Meta Title and Meta Description.

What is a Meta Title?

Your Meta Title (also known as a page title) is the clickable headline that appears in Google search results. It tells both users and Google what your page is about.

For example, if your salon is called Gel Nail Gang in Rayleigh, your Meta Title might be:

“Gel Nail Gang | Gel Nails, BIAB & Nail Art in Rayleigh”

Best Practice for Meta Titles

  • Keep your title between 50–60 characters (including spaces).

This ensures your full title displays correctly on both desktop and mobile search results.

  • Include your business name, main services, and location — this helps Google understand your relevance for local searches.

  • Avoid repeating words or overloading your title with keywords - write naturally and clearly.

What is a Meta Description?

Your Meta Description (also known as page description) is the short summary that appears under your title in Google’s search results. It doesn’t directly affect your ranking, but it strongly influences whether someone clicks on your link.

For example:

“Visit Gel Nail Gang in Rayleigh for beautiful gel nails, BIAB, and creative nail art. Book online today for flawless, long-lasting nails.”

Best Practice for Meta Descriptions

  • Keep your description between 140–160 characters so it displays neatly in search results.

  • Use this space to highlight your services, mention your location, and include a call to action like “Book online today.”

  • Make it sound warm and engaging — think about what would make someone choose your salon over another.

Why these details matter

Google’s algorithms use your Meta Title and Description to determine how relevant your site is for specific searches. Without them, Google might not know what your business offers or where you’re located — meaning your site could struggle to appear in local search results.

By updating these fields in your Solo website settings, you help Google index your site correctly and show it to the right people searching in your local area. This ensures that your business appears more prominently in relevant searches and improves your online visibility.

To update these settings in your app, follow these steps:
Go to Menu → Website → Settings → Google Settings.

How do I know what keyword to use?

Deciding which keyword to use for your Meta Title and Meta Description doesn’t need to be difficult — and there are a few simple ways to figure out what’s best for your business.

1. Check your Google Business Profile category

If you already have a Google Business Profile, start by looking at the primary category tag you selected when you set it up. This category is one of the strongest indicators of what Google already recognises your business for.

For example, if you chose “Nail Salon” as your category, that’s a great keyword to include in your website title — because people are far more likely to search for “nail salon near me” than “nail tech near me.”

So for Gel Nail Gang in Rayleigh, your title might include:

“Gel Nail Gang | Nail Salon in Rayleigh”

If your business is more general — for example, a beauty salon — you can use that broader keyword instead. The key is to match how customers actually search on Google.

2. Use your Google Business Profile Performance dashboard

Your Google Business Profile’s Performance dashboard includes a section that shows the search terms people use to find you.

Take note of the most common phrases that appear there — these are real keywords your potential customers are already typing into Google. You can use those exact terms in your Solo website’s title or description to help your site show up in the same kinds of searches.

For example, if you notice people often find you by searching “gel nails Rayleigh” or “BIAB nails near me,” those are great keywords to work into your content.

3. Think about how you describe yourself

If you’re still unsure, just think about how you’d naturally describe your business and what people come to you for.

Your title and description should include your main keyword (like nail salon or beauty salon) as well as your treatment keywords, such as gel nails, BIAB, or nail art.

That way, even if your main keyword isn’t perfect, you’ll still attract traffic from people searching for the specific services you offer.

Examples of Meta Titles and Descriptions

Here are some examples of what a good Meta Title and Meta Description might look like for different types of beauty and wellness businesses. Each of these examples follows best practice:

  • Meta Titles: around 50–60 characters

  • Meta Descriptions: around 140–160 characters

  • Include business name, main keyword, location, and services

  • Sound natural and inviting — not robotic or overstuffed with keywords
