Tattoo Aftercare

🕐

First 24 Hours

  1. Leave the second skin on for as long as your artist recommends.
    • This protects the tattoo from bacteria and prevents rubbing.
  2. Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
  3. Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap.
    • Use your fingertips, not a washcloth.
  4. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air-dry.
  5. Apply a thin layer of a recommended ointment (e.g., Aquaphor, Hustle Butter, or a tattoo-specific balm).
    • Avoid heavy layers or petroleum jelly.

🌤️

Days 2–7

  • Clean twice a day with mild soap and water.
  • Apply a thin layer of moisturizer after each wash.
  • Avoid:
    • Submerging in water (no pools, baths, or hot tubs)
    • Direct sunlight
    • Tight clothing that rubs the tattoo
  • Expect light peeling or flaking—this is normal. Don’t pick or scratch!

🌙

Weeks 2–4

  • The tattoo may look dull or dry as the top layers heal.
  • Continue moisturizing daily.
  • Do not scratch or peel any remaining flakes or scabs.
  • Avoid long sun exposure—your tattoo is still healing.
  • Use broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) once the skin is fully healed.

✅

Fully Healed (4–6 weeks)

  • Your tattoo should feel smooth and vibrant again.
  • Keep moisturizing regularly.
  • Always use sunscreen to prevent fading and damage.

Brow Aftercare

🌤️

First 24 Hours

  1. Blot gently: Every 1–2 hours, use a clean tissue or cotton pad to gently blot away any lymph fluid. This prevents scabbing.
  2. Keep area clean and dry: Do not wash your brows or apply ointment during the first few hours unless instructed.
  3. Avoid touching or rubbing the brows to prevent infection.

🧴

Days 2–10: Healing & Care

(Some artists call this the “dry heal” or “moist heal” phase—follow what your artist recommended.)

If your artist advised a

dry heal

  • Do not apply any ointments or creams.
  • Keep brows completely dry (no water, sweat, or steam).
  • Avoid makeup, skincare, or sunscreen on the brow area.

If your artist advised a

moist heal

  • After 24 hours, gently clean brows once daily using a mild, fragrance-free cleanser (like baby shampoo or Cetaphil).

  • Use your fingertips and water—no scrubbing.

  • Pat dry with a clean tissue.

  • Apply a very thin layer of the recommended ointment (e.g., Aquaphor, After Inked, or a tattoo balm).

  • Do this 1–2× per day for 7–10 days.

🚫

Avoid for 10–14 Days

  • Water on brows (showers are okay if you avoid direct spray)
  • Sweating or exercise that causes perspiration
  • Swimming, saunas, or steam rooms
  • Makeup, creams, or skincare on/around the brows
  • Sun exposure or tanning
  • Picking, scratching, or rubbing flakes or scabs

(Flaking and slight itching are normal—don’t pick! It can pull out pigment.)

🌙

Days 10–30: Healing & Color Settling

  • Flaking and light patches may appear; the color may fade up to 40–50% before it settles.
  • Once fully healed, apply sunscreen daily to prevent fading.
  • Avoid exfoliating treatments or retinol near the brows for at least 4 weeks.

🩷

Touch-Up Appointment

  • A perfecting session is typically needed 6–8 weeks after the initial procedure.
  • This refines shape and restores color where pigment healed lighter.

🚨

Call your artist or a medical professional if you notice:

  • Redness, swelling, or pus lasting more than 3 days
  • Severe itching, blistering, or rash
  • Signs of infection (fever, spreading redness, or pain)
