✅ How to Prepare for a Spray Tan 24–48 Hours Before Your Appointment 1. Exfoliate Thoroughly Use a gentle, oil-free body scrub or exfoliating mitt to remove dead skin cells. Pay extra attention to dry areas like elbows, knees, ankles, and heels. 2. Hair Removal If you shave, wax, or epilate, do this at least 24 hours before your tan to allow the skin to settle and avoid irritation or patchiness. 3. Moisturise Generously Moisturise dry areas in the days leading up to your tan (but not the day of your appointment), especially if you have dry or sensitive skin. Well-hydrated skin holds colour more evenly. ⸻ The Night Before • Avoid Oils Don’t use oil-based moisturisers or body washes, as they can leave a residue that interferes with the tan’s absorption. • Remove Makeup and Deodorant These can create a barrier on your skin and may cause the tan to go green or patchy in some areas. ⸻ On the Day of Your Tan 1. Shower Before Your Appointment Rinse off any sweat, skincare, or residue. Avoid hot water and skip soaps with heavy moisturisers or oils. 2. Do Not Apply: • Deodorant • Perfume • Makeup • Moisturiser • Body oils or serums These can create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution. 3. Wear Loose, Dark Clothing Choose something breathable to avoid smudging your tan afterward. Avoid tight bras, socks, or anything that could leave lines. ⸻ Bonus Tips: • Plan Ahead: Try to schedule your tan 1–2 days before your event for best colour development. • Stay Cool Post-Tan: Avoid sweating, working out, or showering until your technician tells you it’s safe to rinse off the bronzer (usually 6–8 hours or as instructed).
• Stay Dry! - Do not get your tan wet during the development time. • Wait to shower. 2 hours light, 3 hours medium, 4 hours dark 6-8 hours for maximum results! • Wear loose, dark clothing following your appointment & avoid wearing a bra • Avoid wearing makeup during the development process • Moisturise daily, following your first shower rinse, however avoid moisturisers with oils as oils will strip the tan • 2 days post tan - Apply a moisturiser with a gradual tanning formula. This will help to prolong your tan and aid in it fading evenly. • You may find that the tan fades from the face quickly, apply gradual tanning moisturiser or tanning drops alongside your skincare to keep this topped up • In the case that hands and feet appear to be darker in the early stages, exfoliate gently in your first few showers to help this fade down. (harsh scrubbing will completely remove the tan) exfoliate gently and with care! • Always wear SPF • Still apply sun cream if your on the sun or on holiday. * Spray tans do not protect your skin from UV rays* • Hydrate your body • Pools and chlorine tend to strip the tan, ensure to moisturise with a gradual tanning moisturiser to top up • Recommendations of products: Moisturisers - Aveeno Daily Moisturising Body Lotion Vaseline Cocoa Radiant lotion Gradual Tanning Moisturisers - Tan Luxe The Gradual Bondi Sands Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk
