Nano bond and weaves need to be maintained every 6-10 weeks. Not maintaining can cause matting and damage to the hair. Sunlight, sunbeds, salt water and chlorine water can dry out and discolour extensions so it’s recommended to avoid these as much as possible to get the optimum life span out of your extensions. To avoid matting brush through your extensions starting from the ends then brush through from the roots twice a day. Shampoo your hair extensions with sulfate shampoo only. Sulfate breaks down keratin bonds. A tangle teezer, wet brush or extension brush should be used to brush your extensions as they are gentle and will not pull extensions out. Use an oil/serum on the mids to ends of your extensions to nourish them but avoid the root area. Hair extensions should be blowdried at least 80% dry to avoid matting, the roots should be dried until completely dry. Use a heat protectant before heat styling your extensions to avoid them drying out. If your bonds get stuck together seperate them with your fingers gently, do this at least once a day. When you go to bed tie your hair in loose plait to avoid tangles. Colouring the extensions voids the warranty of the hair purchased if you ever need the hair inspected. If you are ever unhappy with the hair and followed all aftercare, the hair can be sent back to the supplier for inspection. The lifespan of the hair is 9 months - 1 year.
Now that you’ve invested in getting your hair professionally coloured, you need to take good care of it at home. Here are some tips to get the most out of your colour: Avoid washing your hair for the first 3 days as the new colour molecules in your hair from the toners and colours are still settling into your hair. Washing early will cause these some molecules to be removed prematurely. I highly recommend using a professional salon grade shampoo, conditioner and all other hair care. They contain concentrated levels of good active ingredients that will help your hair and maintain the colour. Supermarket haircare is mostly water and strong surfactants which strip everything from your hair and scalp causing dry brittle hair, scalp irritation and early colour fade. If you are blonde, I would recommend a purple conditioner/hair mask over purple shampoo if you need to. Purple shampoo is very drying and actually makes blonde hair dull. A good clarifying shampoo such as K18 Detox shampoo is great for keeping blondes bright as it removes impurities that can make blonde discoloured but does not strip the hair. Hair should never be washed in hot water. Heat causes the hair cuticle to open which can cause more colour fading. Luke warm water at least is best but if you can bare it, use cool water. Especially if you have vivid coloured hair! ALWAYS use heat protection! I cannot stress this enough. Heat tools are the biggest culprit for colour fading. Also turn your heat down if your tools have the option, 175 degrees Celsius is all hair needs. If your hair is fine I would recommend turning the heat down even lower. If you have very thick frizzy hair I would never recommend going over 200 degrees. ALL colour fades warm eventually. Permanent or semi permanent. The level of warmth can depend on different factors such as the level of warmth in your natural hair or what level your hair has been lifted to. All colour requires maintenance. Depending on what colour your hair is and the technique used will determine how high or low maintenance it is.
