Microneedling aftercare advice (valid for 48 hours after treatment)

• Avoid all heat on skin, such as baths, showers, sauna, exercise. • Avoid going under strong sunlight for 2-3 days. • Do not use your usual skincare routine, stick to cool water and the satchets provided. • Do not apply make-up for 48 hours. • Use SPF30 if outside. • You will be provided with enough healing cream for 48 hours, please make sure to use it. Microneedling can sometimes cause purging, especially if you’re using active skincare ingredients like retinoids, exfoliating acids, or vitamin C. Here’s some advice on managing purging and getting the best results: 1. Understanding Purging vs. Breakouts • Purging: Temporary increase in whiteheads, blackheads, or small pimples as the skin renews itself faster. Usually lasts 2-6 weeks. • Breakouts: Could be due to irritation, infection, or an allergic reaction. If breakouts are red, painful, or persist beyond 6 weeks, it might not be purging. 2. Prepping Your Skin Before Microneedling • Avoid retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and other strong actives for 3-5 days before treatment. • Ensure your skin is clean and hydrated to reduce irritation. • If you’re acne-prone, a gentle anti-bacterial cleanser (like one with benzoyl peroxide) can help prevent post-needling breakouts. 3. Post-Microneedling Skincare to Reduce Purging • First 24-48 Hours: Stick to hydrating, gentle products (hyaluronic acid, ceramides, peptides). No exfoliants or active ingredients. • Days 3-7: Slowly reintroduce mild actives if your skin tolerates them. Avoid harsh exfoliants and retinoids for at least a week. • SPF is non-negotiable! Your skin is extra sensitive, so use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily. 4. Managing Purging • Keep your skin hydrated and barrier-protected (look for niacinamide, centella, or panthenol). • Use ice or a cool compress for inflammation but avoid picking or over-exfoliating. • If needed, spot treat with gentle, non-drying acne treatments (e.g., benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid, or pimple patches). • Consider taking zinc supplements to help reduce inflammation and speed healing. 5. When to Be Concerned • Purging lasts longer than 6 weeks or worsens over time. • You experience painful cystic acne or a rash-like breakout (signs of an allergic reaction or infection). • Your skin stays red, swollen, or irritated for more than a week.
