After acupuncture, you might feel a range of things, including:
Relaxed or energised: Some people feel relaxed, while others feel energized after acupuncture.
Temporary side effects: Some common side effects include drowsiness, nausea, headache, and minor bleeding or bruising.
Pain: You might feel pain where the needles were inserted, or you might experience a temporary increase in pain.
Soreness: The area where the needles were inserted might feel sore, but this usually goes away within a day.
Fatigue: You might feel tired after acupuncture, which is your body's way of telling you to rest. Listen to your body :)
Emotional release: Acupuncture can help you release emotions, so you might experience a range of emotions. Be kind and patient with yourself.
Rest: Take it easy and avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and staying up late.
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to help with any lightheadedness.
Eat healthy: Eat well and avoid fast food and processed snacks. Antioxidants found in foods like blueberries, and turmeric can help eliminate toxins. You’ll most likely be given lots of food and drink advice during your treatment!
Avoid ice and cold: Cold can slow down healing and cause further pain. Chinese medicine believes in the power of warmth!
Massage: A massage can help you relax and promote healing.
Be patient: It can take time to feel the full benefits of acupuncture. The best part of the benefits of acupuncture are felt in the days after you have have received your treatment. In the same way we take medicine, healing does not happen over night!
Wait to shower: Wait a few hours before taking a shower.
Check in with your practitioner: If you have any concerns, contact your Tommy and he’ll be happy to guide you.
Some other things to consider after acupuncture include:
If you're drowsy, don’t drive.
Bruising or a slight lump is normal and will go away within a week.
If you have a bleeding disorder or take anticoagulant medicine, talk to your doctor before getting acupuncture.
If you're pregnant, let your practitioner know because some acupuncture points aren't safe during pregnancy. This is very important!
Acupuncture helps restore balance and stimulate your body's natural innate healing abilities. After your treatment, please follow these guidelines to maximise the benefits:
Rest and Relax: Your body may need time to process the treatment. Resting for the remainder of the day or engaging in light activities (like walking or stretching) can support your healing process. Avoid intense exercise or overexertion.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water and herbal teas to help your body flush out toxins and support the energetic shifts brought on by the acupuncture.
Eat Nourishing Foods: Opt for wholesome, balanced meals that are easy to digest. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), warm, cooked foods are especially recommended post-treatment to nurture digestion and energy flow. Think soups, stews, warming energies!
Listen to Your Body: You may experience changes in your energy levels, emotions, or physical sensations after treatment. This is normal as your body recalibrates. Allow yourself to rest if you feel tired, and avoid pushing through fatigue. Remember your mind and body are intrinsically connected.
Avoid Stimulants and Toxins: Limit alcohol, caffeine, and smoking after your session to allow your body to stay in a more balanced and receptive state. Avoid any harsh toxins or chemicals in your environment if possible.
Emotional Awareness: Acupuncture can release emotional as well as physical blockages. You may notice shifts in your mood or feelings that surface after treatment. Allow yourself to process these emotions and reach out if you need support.
Follow-Up Treatments: Healing is a gradual process, and consistency is key. For best results, follow the treatment plan discussed with your practitioner, Tommy. Additional sessions may be necessary to maintain the progress achieved and reach your goals.
Sleep Well: Good sleep is an important part of healing. Make sure to create a restful sleep environment and allow your body the time it needs to recover.
If you have any questions, or experience anything unexpected, please don't hesitate to contact Tommy.
Avoid touching your face: Don't touch or rub your face to prevent bacteria from getting into the treated area.
Avoid makeup: Avoid wearing makeup for at least 6-12 hours after your facial. If you do wear makeup, use mineral-based products.
Avoid harsh products: Avoid using harsh products, like fragranced products, exfoliating products, and anti-aging creams for 24-72 hours.
Hydrate!: Drink plenty of water and herbal tea to help flush out toxins and keep your skin hydrated.
Avoid heat: Avoid heat treatments like saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for at least 48 hours.
Avoid sun exposure: Avoid direct sunlight or sunbeds for at least 24-48 hours. Apply a top quality facial spf!
Avoid alcohol and smoking: Avoid alcohol and smoking, which can interfere with the healing process and your skin's health.
Avoid other treatments: Don't get any other facial treatments for at least a week unless recommended by your practitioner.
Continue your skincare routine: Cleanse, tone, and moisturise your skin.
Eat healthy: Eat a healthy, balanced diet that includes lots of fruit and veg.
After a facial, your skin may feel warm and sensitive for a few hours. You might also experience breakouts because impurities and toxins are being drawn out of your skin, particularly if you have congested, acne-prone or sensitive skin.
Both Gua Sha and fire cupping are powerful techniques used to release tension, promote circulation, and support your body’s healing processes. To enhance the benefits of your treatment and ensure proper recovery, please follow these aftercare guidelines:
Rest and Recovery: Allow your body time to rest following the treatment. While light movement, like walking or gentle stretching, is fine, avoid any intense activity or exercise for the remainder of the day. You may feel relaxed or even tired after your session. Listen to your body and take it easy.
