General advice

1. Avoid intense heat for the first 24 hours Saunas, hot tubs, hot baths do wonders for your wellbeing but wreak havoc on your fresh set! Avoiding these, especially for the first 24 hours after your nail appointment will reduce the chance of lifting. 2. Wear gloves for household tasks Nails are highly susceptible to wear and tear when exposed to water and harsh chemicals. Excessive water exposure can weaken the adhesive of gel or builder nails, while cleaning agents can dry out and damage the nail bed. Whether it's washing dishes or gardening, wearing protective gloves is one of the simplest and most effective ways to safeguard a manicure. Investing in a sturdy, water-resistant pair of rubber gloves will keep your nails safe during household chores. 3. Avoid using nails as tools It’s tempting to use nails to peel labels, open cans, or pry things apart – but this habit can quickly turn a flawless manicure into a chipped or broken set. Over time, using nails as tools leads to trauma and weakening of the nail plate, causing nails to peel or split. Remember, nails are jewels, not tools! 4. Try not to bite/pick off your nails Biting and picking off your nails are not just unfortunate for your manicure, it also damages your nails underneath. Picking off your gels can remove the top layers of your nail plate, thinning out your nails and making them weaker over time. It can also cause nail lifting if too much force is used. The only way to overcome that is to let them grow out. Resisting the urge where possible will maintain your nail health over time. 5. Cuticle oil, cuticle oil, cuticle oil! Cuticle oil is an essential step in maintaining healthy, beautiful nails between appointments. Regular use of cuticle oil nourishes the nail bed, promotes nail growth, hydrates the skin and prevents lifting or cracking, ensuring nails remain flexible and strong. Top tip: chuck it in your makeup bag or alongside your skincare, having it somewhere you already have an established routine will help you remember to use it. 6. Maintenance Maintenance is key to keep nails looking flawless and strong. Scheduling routine appointments helps to prevent issues like lifting, overgrowth or structural weaknesses. Going too long between appointments, particularly when having builder gel or extensions, can put unnecessary stress on the natural nail, increasing the risk of damage. For minor chips or breaks that happen between visits, filing gently in one direction will smooth any imperfections without weakening the nail structure. By sticking to a regular nail care routine and addressing small issues promptly, clients can maintain their nails’ health and appearance, ensuring longer-lasting, beautiful results.
