PRE-PROCEDURE ADVICE
Permanent cosmetic procedures will normally require multiple treatment sessions. For best results, clients will be required to return for at least one retouch procedure, usually between 1-3 months after the initial procedure.
Be prepared for the colour to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the procedure. This will subside and become lighter as the tissue heals. This process can take up to ten days.
Advice for all permanent cosmetic procedures:
• Alcohol, Aspirin, Ibuprofen or Co-Codamol must be avoided at least 48 hours prior to procedure. It is also advisable not to have caffine the day of the procedure.
• Do not discontinue any medication before consulting your doctor.
• Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may be swollen or red, it is advised not to make social plans for the same day.
• The treatment will only go ahead with the outcome of a negative patch test.
• We do not allow any family or friends in the treatment room with you.
Eyebrow Procedures:
• Any waxing should be performed at least 48 hours before the procedure: Electrolysis no less than 5 days before the procedure.
Eyeliner Procedures:
• Any eyelash tinting or eyelash perming should be carried out no sooner than 1 week before.
• Do not wear contact lenses during or immediately following the procedure. Remember to bring your glasses.
• You may have some swelling, as a safety precaution, we recommend that you have someone available to drive you home.
Lip liner/Colour
• If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex), we advise you to contact your doctor to obtain a prescription of Aciclovir (an antiviral medicine) to prevent such outbreaks.. Alternatively, obtain herpes medication for example Zovirax from your local chemist and use one week before and one week after your procedure. This can help minimise an outbreak.
• Permanent cosmetic procedures do not cause cold sores, however if you carry the virus, it lays dormant in the body and can be stimulated by the procedure.
Beauty Spots
• We advise not to have a perfectly round spot, as this is not natural looking
Congratulations on the new you!
Your permanent makeup will lighten! - Your permanent makeup (PMU) is oxidizing, which is a process that will give the surface a much darker appearance at first; about 20-30% darker for brows and eyes, and about 50% for lips and cosmetic tattoos in other areas. As the tissue undergoes haemostasis, blood rises to the surface of an injury to supply the area with new skin cells, oxygen, and nutrients that support healing. This is a natural process of the body to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin. If you bled a lot during your procedure, this will also contribute to your PMU having a darker appearance because the tiny droplets of blood will turn blackish-brown as they dry, and remain until they are exfoliated from the skin.
During the healing process, it is extremely important to be attentive to the PMU area, and so it is vital to know what to expect. Redness, tenderness, slight swelling, itching, and pigment exfoliation are all completely normal reactions to the procedure. Shedding tiny flakes or specks of colour is also an expected part of the healing process. By ensuring a well-supported and safe recovery, you can also ensure a beautifully healed result.
The key to post-procedure care is to keep the wounded tissue clean, undisturbed, and moisturized. It is fine to shower and to wash your face as usual, if you treat the PMU area gently and don’t stand face first in the shower. Cleaners, shampoos, and direct contact with water will not harm or affect your PMU as it heals. However, sweat will affect healing, as salt lifts pigment out of the skin – so hold off on heavy exercise for at least the first week! Afterwards, once the first exfoliation has taken place and the pigment has become ‘locked’ under the skin, you can resume these activities. No swimming or any traditional make up for 7 days post procedure on the treated area.
Generally, during the first week of healing, it is best to limit the amount of time spent showering or bathing, and ideally to first add a thin layer of healing ointment as provided by your micropigmentation artist. Avoid using strong astringents and exfoliants, or any products containing the following: retinal acids, benzoyl peroxides, salicylic acids, alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA), beta hydroxyl acids (BHA), lactic acids. Anything with a specifically exfoliating effect should not be applied to the PMU area during healing, as they can significantly alter the result and fade the healed area more rapidly; your skin will naturally exfoliate over time. Applying any of the above products can also migrate towards the PMU, example (forehead towards eyebrows) beyond the original area.
Between 6-8 weeks, it is recommended that you return for a follow-up appointment, for the ‘finishing’ phase of your PMU. It is also recommended that you return for regular maintenance of your PMU (known as a ‘touch up’ or ‘colour boost’ session) – these follow-up appointments provide needed corrections as the pigment naturally fades and gets metabolized by the body.
GUIDE TO HEALING
All PMU areas should be kept out of direct sunlight post-procedure for 14 days. Once fully healed (between day 21 and 28), you may apply sunblock to the area for maintenance protection. This helps to ensure the longevity of your PMU. Eye liner is exempt from this, as it is typically protected using sunglasses.
BROW CARE
• Ensure your hands are clean every time you treat your brows!!
• Blot Brows for the first 6 hours
• Cleanse with a mild anti-bac or children’s soap approx. 6 hours after treatment and apply a very thin layer of aftercare balm with a clean cotton bud.
• Repeat this step on the morning and night of the following day.
Following days use the aftercare balm as needed This keeps the area protected with a breathable barrier and supports healing. DO NOT PICK OR RUB THE BROWS as this will result in a patchy finish and leave you open to infection if the skin becomes open due to the scab coming off too early.
Day 1-3: You can expect the area to be bold in colour, with a dramatic appearance, clear discharge, and slight bleeding. A crust is forming for full healing and your PMU may look uneven due to inflammation/swelling. Do not worry; this is normal. Trust the healing process, it will lighten and heal.
Day 3-4: The area will start to itch and flake. The procedure area will appear to be thicker in texture and possibly look uneven because of the aforementioned inflammation/swelling. The crust has formed, flaky skin will start to peel from the outside edges first. This is normal; do not panic and do not pick at it. Just use your ointment to minimize the look.
Day 5-6: Most of the colour has finished flaking off. You will notice a soft greyish effect for several days until the skin cells exfoliate and clarify the colour as it starts to mature. This maturing takes a full 21 to 28 days with the skins natural cycle.
Day 7: A much softer, more natural look.
Day 8-14: Greyish appearance is gone, skin looks smooth and the colour is very soft.
Day 15-30: Pigment looks brighter and clearer. The tissue is healthy, and healing is complete.

LIPS
Cleanse the lips approx. 6 hours after treatment with a mild soap, and apply the after-care balm. Repeat this step the following morning. Use the aftercare balm as often as required in the following days.
Day 1: Swelling, tenderness, very dark and thick lipstick appearance. The area will appear reddish purple in colour. This is all surface oxidation, as the lips have swollen and there is blood in the tissue related to minor bruising from the procedure. You will also experience some mild bleeding and oozing with coloured discharge, because of the pigment. DO NOT DRINK HOT LIQUIDS OR EAT SPICY FOODS.
Day 2: Slight swelling, reddish, and tender with some oozing of coloured discharge accompanied by a warm feeling. You might notice a slight metallic flavour because of the dried blood.
Day 3: Sore but with less swelling, thick texture as a crust has started to form (scab formation). You will experience a warm feeling before exfoliating, and have very dry, chapped lips.
Day 4-5: Exfoliation begins, chapped texture is almost gone.
Day 6-7: Lip colours begins to appear under the crust. This colour will start to disappear, replaced with a greyish, transparent "frosty" haze as the second stage of healing begins.
Day 8-14: Greyish haze disappears and beautiful colour blooms and matures, looking bright and clear.
Day 15-30: The healing is complete. The colour you see now is the new colour you will have. Your lips will remain dry for 1-3 months.
IF YOU ARE PRONE TO COLD SORES USE YOUR REGULAR COLD SORE CREAM SUCH AS ZOVIRAX FOR 14 DAYS FOLLOWING THE TREATMENT.

EYE CARE
For the first 6 hours, use a warm, damp cotton pad to gently wipe the area. For the next 7 days, and if advised, apply a thin layer of aftercare balm. You may apply a cold compress or ice pack to the area to reduce swelling; make sure you move the ice pack around, not leaving it too long in one area, to prevent frostbite.
DO NOT: use contacts, eye makeup, or mascara for 7 days post procedure and any lash-enhancing products or fake lashes for 14 days post procedure. Used make up contains bacteria because of regular use, so make sure you purchase new mascara once you are ready to use it again. You should avoid swimming in pools for 5 days post procedure, as bacteria and chemicals in the water may be irritating. Do not swim in open water for 14 days post procedure as the salt water will pull pigment out. Please note as an eyeliner treatment is an invasive procedure there will be a small possability of conjunctivitous following the treatment
EYELINER
Day 1: Swelling, tightness, and tenderness when you blink. It will look like you have been crying a lot. The PMU will look heavy and you will experience some clear discharge.
Day 2: Swelling, still a heavy makeup look with some particles of pigment around the eye area. It will feel tender and a slight crust will have formed.
Day 3: A lot less swelling, tight skin, pigment has a slight crust and begins to lift away from the skin.
Day 4: Exfoliation of the surface pigment; the skin beneath will begin to flake off. Do not pick at it.
Day 5: Blinking and movement of the eyes will feel less tender and applying ointment will usually remove all excess pigment. Colour has somewhat of an ashy grey appearance until a second exfoliation that takes a few more days to clarify the true colour.
Day 6: Eyeliner appears softer and shrinks in size to reveal a thinner appearance.
Day 7: Still a soft ashy appearance but the skin has healed and is fully exfoliated.
Day 8-30: Full healing has taken place and the colour has matured and clarified.
NOTE: If your eyes feel itchy and irritated you may have a minor irritation to the aftercare ointment. You should discontinue all ointment, wash your eyes to remove the ointment and let it heal dry.
If your eyes are red and emitting any white or yellow discharge, or very itchy, you may have a minor eye infection. In this case, rinse your eyes to remove the ointment and visit your pharmacist or doctor to request antibiotic eye drops. Eye infections are extremely rare but can happen, so always wash your hands when treating your eyes and apply a very tiny amount of aftercare ointment (size of grain of rice).
After an advanced facial, it's crucial to focus on hydration, sun protection, and avoiding harsh treatments for a few days to allow the skin to recover and maximize results. Key aftercare steps include moisturising, gentle cleansing, avoiding makeup for 24-48 hours, and protecting the skin from sun exposure.
Avoid harsh products:
Refrain from using exfoliants, retinoids, or other active ingredients for at least 48 hours post-treatment.
No makeup (or minimal):
For 24-48 hours, avoid makeup to allow the skin to breathe and prevent clogging pores.
Other Important Considerations:
Avoid touching or picking the skin: This can introduce bacteria and lead to breakouts.
Clean your phone: Keep your phone clean to avoid transferring bacteria to your face.
Sleep on a clean pillowcase: Consider using a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and irritation.
Follow your therapist's advice: They may have specific recommendations based on the type of facial you received.
By following these aftercare guidelines, you can help your skin recover properly, maximise the benefits of your advanced facial, and achieve optimal results.
Please follow the guidelines below to ensure your skin is cared for properly over the next few days.
Please note: some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over the next 24 - 48 hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Keep the waxed area clean and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 - 48 hours.
This means:
• No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only).
• No saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments.
• No tanning (sunbathing, sun beds or fake tans).
• No sport, gym work or other exercise.
• Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.
• Wear clean, loose fitting clothes.
• Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
• Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended by your therapist.
