Aftercare following a microdermabrasion treatment is crucial for ensuring optimal results and preventing skin irritation or damage.
Here are key steps to follow:
Moisturize Frequently as your skin may feel dry or tight after the procedure, so apply a gentle, hydrating moisturizer to keep the skin nourished. Look for moisturizers with soothing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, or ceramides. Avoid Sun Exposure. The skin is more sensitive after microdermabrasion, making it prone to sunburn or damage. Wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, even if staying indoors, and reapply regularly when exposed to sunlight. Use protective clothing or hats when going outside to minimize UV exposure. Avoid exfoliating products like scrubs, retinoids, or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) for at least 3-7 days, as they can irritate freshly treated skin. Use mild, fragrance-free cleansers and products that are formulated for sensitive skin. Stay Hydrated by drinking plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside and support healing. Hydrated skin recovers faster and looks smoother post-treatment. Avoid Makeup for 24-48 Hours. Give your skin time to breathe and heal without makeup, especially heavy foundation or powders that can clog pores. If makeup is necessary, opt for lightweight, non-comedogenic products. Do Not Pick or Scrub the Skin. Avoid picking at any flaking or peeling skin that may occur post-treatment, as this can cause irritation or scarring. Let the dead skin cells slough off naturally. Avoid activities that cause excessive sweating, such as vigorous exercise, for at least 24-48 hours after treatment to prevent irritation. Avoid Heat and Steam. Stay away from hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms immediately after treatment, as excessive heat can inflame the skin.
Following these aftercare steps will help minimize irritation, promote healing, and allow your skin to look smooth and refreshed after microdermabrasion.
Avoid excessive sun exposure for at least 72 hours post treatment. Never forget to wear sunscreen! Although it is fine to apply makeup immediately after the treatment, it is better to give your skin a break for the rest of the day. Do not pick at your skin.
