What happens at an ear wax removal appointment?

We will assess your ears and medical history, then recommend the best removal method according to your needs.
They will use a video camera to provide you with a clear view inside your ear. This allows you to see the "before" and "after" effects of wax removal.
As part of our commitment to your overall hearing health, you will also receive a free quick hearing test during your appointment.

Following your ear wax removal appointment, you may experience improved hearing and relief from any discomfort caused by excessive wax build-up. Our team will provide you with any necessary aftercare instructions and recommendations to help maintain healthy ears.
Gentle Ear Wax Removal with Care
At Clarity Ear Health, we use two safe and effective methods to gently remove ear wax:
Manual Removal
Best for small amounts of wax close to the entrance of the ear canal. Using delicate tools like a Jobson Horne (a slim instrument with a gentle loop at the end), wax is carefully lifted out — with precision and comfort in mind.
Microsuction
This method uses a quiet medical suction device to gently clear wax or debris from the ear canal. A fine suction tube is guided under magnification, ensuring accuracy and safety at all times.
What Is Ear Wax?
Ear wax, or cerumen, is a natural substance produced by the body. It’s made up of:
Old skin cells
Tiny particles of dust and debris
Natural oils from the ear’s glands
Despite being a little messy, wax is wonderfully helpful. It keeps your ears moisturised, traps dust, and contains antibacterial properties that protect your ears from infection. Most of the time, wax moves out of the ear on its own — which is part of how your ears naturally stay clean.
When Does Wax Become a Problem?
While some wax is normal, sometimes it builds up and causes blockages — especially if it’s been accidentally pushed deeper by things like cotton buds or hairpins.
You may notice:
Reduced or muffled hearing
A sense of fullness or pressure
Itching or ringing in the ears
Occasional dizziness or mild discomfort

How to prepare for ear wax removal? To ensure a comfortable ear wax removal experience, we recommend using a medicated olive oil spray such as Earol daily for 5 days prior to your appointment. This helps soften the wax, making it easier to remove during your visit. You can find ear wax softening sprays at your local pharmacy or healthcare store.
However, if you've been advised against using oil or ear drops by another health professional, or if you have a known or suspected perforation of the eardrum, please refrain from doing so.

How to prepare for ear wax removal?
Lets get you started
We recommend that olive oil based ear drops are used for at least 5 days before your Microsuction appointment, but not on the day of the appointment.
The oil will help to lubricate the ear canal and will soften the wax, making it easier to extract.
However, if you've been advised against using oil or ear drops by another health professional, or if you have a known or suspected perforation of the eardrum, please refrain from doing so.
