The first two weeks after microblading are the most critical for healing and pigment retention. Failure to follow after-care instructions may result in scarring, infections, pigment loss, or discoloration. After the appointment, wait two hours and then wash your brows with cooled boiled water to remove any lymph fluid build up. Repeat this process every two hours for the first six hours. After this, keep your face dry for at least a week, and avoid soaking the area in the shower, bath, pool, or hot tub. Do not wear make up around the treated area for the first week to avoid infection and prevent poor retention. Avoid sleeping on your face and do not sweat profusely. This means to avoid gym work outs, saunas and steam rooms. Do not go into direct sunlight for the first 6 weeks whilst your brows are healing. This includes sunbeds and other UV exposure. Avoid touching: Don't pick, scratch, or rub the treated area. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour. You will be issued vitamin A and D cream to help the healing process. Please follow the instructions for use of this to make sure your end result is the best it possibly can be.
After the appointment, blot your lips every few hours to avoid a build up of lymph fluid and use the lip ice pack to reduce swelling. Apply ointment on lips several times a day. Keep lips moist at all times. Avoid oily, spicy and heavily seasoned food and drink with a straw for the first week whilst you go through the scabbing faze. After every meal gently rinse and clean lips with water and pat dry, then re-apply ointment until healed. Your lips may feel tender, tight, tingly and like they may split during the first 2 weeks. Rest assured this is normal and you must maintain a good level of hydration on the lips so frequent application of balms may be necessary. Your true healed colour will be evident by day 30. During the healing process, they will darken, then lighten, before settling into their true colour. This is normal so please do not panic if they seem very light by day 10, or very dark on day 2.
Upon completion, your artist will cover your tattoo with second skin - a film recommended to remain on the skin for 24 hours. After this is removed, gently wash the area with warm, soapy water and rinse. Pat dry or allow to dry naturally. Apply a very thin layer of balm onto the tattoo - it’s key not to over-moisturise as the skin needs to breathe to heal. Too much moisturising can lead to suffocation of the skin and prolong the healing process. Repeat this process twice a day for the first week. If you begin to scab/peel, it is key not to pick. This can cause fading and scarring of the skin. Continue to use the balm as you see fit. It will help keep your tattoo vibrant and healthy! Avoid sun & UV exposure to your tattoo for the first 4 weeks. Even once healed, sun exposure can cause fading on any tattoos so please be aware of this when it comes to long-term care of your tattoo. Do not go swimming or soak your tattoo for the first 2 weeks during the healing process.
All aftercare is available before and after treatments so you are prepared for your procedure and the time after. Every procedure is a 50/50 effort from your artist and yourself to achieve the best outcome possible. Therefore following the aftercare is key for vibrant, perfect results. Aftercare goodie bags are given at the end of each treatment which will include everything you need for the first week. You may find you run out of balms. If this happens, you are welcome to reach out to your artist to find the supplier to purchase extra from, or to source your own preferred balm.
