First things first: be kind to your nails Your nails aren’t tools (it’s tempting, I know). Avoid using them to open cans, pick labels, or scrape things off surfaces. Gel products are strong, but not indestructible; pressure in the wrong way can cause lifting or cracks.
Hydration is everything Cuticle oil is your best friend now. Apply it at least once a day (twice if you can). It keeps your nails flexible, prevents lifting, and helps your natural nails stay healthy underneath. Dry nails = more chance of breakage.
Gloves = game changer If you’re cleaning, washing up a lot, or using chemicals, wear gloves. Water and harsh products can weaken the gel over time and dull the shine.
Avoid picking or peeling (seriously) If your gel starts lifting, don’t pick at it. It might be satisfying in the moment, but it can take layers of your natural nail with it, leading to damage and weaker nails long-term. If something feels off, book a fix instead.
Be mindful of heat and products Long hot baths, saunas, and strong chemicals (like hair dye or cleaning products) can affect your nails. You don’t have to avoid them completely, just be aware and protect your hands when you can.
Regular infills are key Structured gel manicures need maintenance. Book infills every 2–3 weeks to keep your nails balanced, strong, and looking their best. Leaving them too long can lead to lifting or even breakage.
Don’t attempt a DIY removal When it’s time to remove or change your set, get it done professionally. Improper removal is one of the biggest causes of nail damage.
