Your IPL journey

Before your first IPL treatment, a consultation and patch test are required. This allows me to assess your skin and hair, discuss your expectations and make sure IPL is suitable and safe for you.

Because IPL works on hair during specific stages of the growth cycle, a course of treatments is required to achieve the best results. Hair growth should gradually become finer, lighter and less dense as your course progresses.

A consultation and patch test are required before commencing your IPL course.

We'll discuss your medical history, skin type, hair growth and treatment goals before carrying out your patch test. You'll also receive advice on how to prepare your skin for treatment and what to expect throughout your IPL journey.

What can I expect?

IPL treatment is generally quick, with most clients describing the sensation as a warm flick or snap against the skin. Treatment times vary depending on the area being treated.

You may notice some reduction in hair growth after your initial treatments, but results are progressive, so completing the recommended course is important for optimum results.

Before your treatment

For the best and safest results:

• Avoid waxing, threading or epilating the area before treatment, as IPL needs the hair follicle to be present.
• Shaving is recommended before your appointment.
• Avoid tanning and sun exposure before treatment.
• Do not use fake tan on the area being treated.
• Follow all pre-treatment advice given during your consultation.

After your treatment

Your skin may appear slightly warm or flushed immediately afterwards, which should settle.

For the first few days, treat the area gently and follow the aftercare advice provided. Avoid excessive heat, tanning and direct sun exposure and use a suitable SPF where appropriate.
