Preparing for your wax is important and made easy. Before your appointment, prepare with the following:
Things to note:
On the day of your appointment, it is important to ensure your skin is ready for waxing:
After your wax-appointment, skin may be slightly red and irritated, but don’t fret! Your skin will be feeling silky smooth in next to no time. See our top tips for that post-appointment glow below:
• It is recommended to avoid contact with water for 24 hours after the procedure.
• Avoid aggressive cosmetic treatment (scrubs, peels, alcohol-containing products) and steam (baths and saunas).
• Do not use lotions, toners and creams in the eye area.
Brow Lamination:
Lash Lift:
SAME APPOINTMENT RE-LAMINATION PROCESSING TIMES In the case that you have
performed the lash lamination on a client and the result has not taken in the way you or your client would have
liked, you are able to re-lift your client’s lashes again in that same appointment, however, your processing time
must be decreased by half or less of the initial processing time. It is important to re-assess the integrity of the
natural lash to make sure it is safe to proceed with a re-lift.
NOT ENOUGH OF A LAMINATION If for instance, you laminated a client lash for 10 minutes and 8
minutes, you have completely dried the lashes and assessed the result and there was some visible lift but just
not enough of a result, you would re-lift the lashes with a processing time of 5 minutes for lamination and 4
minutes for setting. Remember to implement your Flex and Set checks for accuracy of processing times.
NO VISIBLE LAMINATION AT ALL In the case that your client’s natural lashes after laminating for
10 minutes and 8 minutes, you have assessed the dried the natural lashes and there is no visible result, you may
proceed with re-laminating the lashes again for 5 minutes and 4 minutes. You could use a heat source like a
heat lamp or warming eye pillow if you are finding the clients lashes are particularly strong. If the client has left
the salon and time has passed since the treatment (at least 24 hours) you will need to consider the result and
the condition of the client’s natural lashes before you choose the processing time that you wish to use. In some
cases, using more than half the processing time again might be required. Correct assessment of the lashes is
important to be able to proceed safely. What happens if you process stronger lashes with a lesser processing
time? You might see only a very slight lamination result, or the lashes might drop out faster than anticipated.
Following your Flex and Set checks will aid in achieving the best result for your client.
OVERPROCESSING refers to the time the lotion is left on the lashes. If the lotions are applied on the
lashes for too long the result will see a distorted or frazzled lashes. This might not be apparent immediately
after the lamination and might begin to show as the lashes dry or over the next 24 hours as the lashes
normalise to their original pH.
Over processing can also occur when the lotion is not completely removed from the lashes during the removal
process. If the lashes on one eye is left to continue to process while you remove the other you must be mindful
of the processing time the lotion is allowed to remain on for or you might find the lashes on one eye processes
more, or potentially over processes.
GROWOUT There is a difference between overprocessing and grow out. As lashes begin to move outward
from the follicle, the new lash will not be laminated. Instead, the lash will have their natural buoyancy and
direction. Therefore, if after a few weeks the base of the lashes begins to show what appears to be a bump or
a curve before the straighten portion of the hair, this is due to the lashes natural regrowth pattern. The best
way to manage your client’s expectation on this is to educate them on their lash growth cycle.
If you’ve recently had microdermabrasion, congratulations!
You’ve invested into making your skin healthy, hydrated and happy. You might even be experiencing that post-micro glow we love so much, where the skin is soft to the touch and your makeup-free confidence is at an all time high!
But how do you make sure these incredible benefits continue to last long after your microderm has finished? Keep reading to find out our top tips to care for your skin after microdermabrasion.
Keep the skin cool and calm
The first 24 hours after your microdermabrasion are the most important when it comes to ensuring the best possible results. Avoid anything that raises your body temperature, such as hot showers, sauna, steam rooms and exercise for the first day after treatment. We want to keep your skin cool and calm.
Begin a gentle skincare routine
Commence a gentle skincare routine with the products recommended to you by your therapist.
Stay hydrated
The products used during your microdermabrasion will work to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin. Maintain your skin’s plump, fresh and hydrated appearance by ensuring you drink plenty of water after your treatment. It’s also recommended that you carry a moisturising spritz in your handbag, so you can continue to rehydrate your skin throughout the day!
Don’t pick at your skin
It works by removing the outermost layer of the Epidermis (skin) and accelerates skin turn over. So, it’s common to experience some peeling of the skin after microdermabrasion.
Avoid picking or peeling the skin.
Stay sun safe
A microdermabrasion removes dead skin, revealing the soft, new skin underneath. This new skin is particularly susceptible to the harmful rays of the sun.
For sun safety and protection, as always, continue to apply your SPF 50+ sunscreen every four hours after a microdermabrasion – especially when outside.
What You Should DO After Dermaplaning
Cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser: You’ll want to cleanse your face gently immediately after dermaplaning. A gentle cleanser will remove any debris or residue left behind on the skin’s surface. Avoid using harsh or abrasive cleansers, which can irritate the skin.
Apply a hydrating serum or face oil: Dermaplaning can leave your skin feeling a bit dry and sensitive. To combat this, apply a hydrating serum or face oil to help nourish and protect the skin.
After your treatment, follow a simple skincare routine: For two weeks following your treatment, stick to a simple skincare routine. That means using a gentle cleanser, hydrating serum or face oil, and sunscreen every day. Avoid any other treatments or products that could irritate the skin.
Use SPF: It’s important to use sunscreen after dermaplaning since your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s harmful rays. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and apply it every day, even if you’re just spending time indoors.
Do not wear any makeup for 24 hours: You’ll want to avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after dermaplaning. This will give your skin time to heal and recover from the treatment.
Avoid touching your face: Touching your face can introduce bacteria to the skin and cause irritation. So, it’s best to avoid touching your face as much as possible after dermaplaning.
Avoid using harsh skincare products: Harsh skincare products, such as retinoids or glycolic acids, can irritate the skin after dermaplaning. If you use these products, wait at least a day or two before using them again after your treatment.
Avoid chlorine and swimming pools: Chlorinated water can dry out and irritate the skin. So, it’s best to avoid swimming in pools or other bodies of chlorinated water for at least 24 hours after dermaplaning. You can shower normally after your treatment.
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water helps to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. This is especially important after dermaplaning since your skin will be more prone to dryness.
Get plenty of rest and relaxation: Taking some time to relax and de-stress can do wonders for your skin. Consider taking a relaxing bath or reading a good book to help your skin recover from dermaplaning.
What You Should NOT DO After Dermaplaning
Don’t use retinol or glycolic acid: You’ll want to avoid using retinol or glycolic acid for at least a week after dermaplaning. These ingredients can cause irritation and dryness, which isn’t ideal for sensitive skin.
Don’t expose your skin to the sun: It’s important to avoid direct sun exposure after dermaplaning. This can irritate the skin and cause redness and swelling. If you must be in the sun, make sure to wear sunscreen with a high SPF.
Don’t use hot water on your face: Hot water can strip the natural oils from your skin, leaving it feeling dry and irritated. So, avoid using hot water when cleansing your face or taking a shower. Steam rooms or saunas should also be avoided for at least a day or two after dermaplaning.
Don’t use harsh or abrasive cleansers: Harsh or abrasive cleansers can irritate the skin and cause redness and swelling. Stick to gentle cleansers after dermaplaning to help keep your skin healthy and happy.
Don’t use a washcloth or scrub brush on your face: Washcloths and scrub brushes can be too harsh for the skin after dermaplaning. Stick to using your hands when cleansing your face to avoid any irritation.
Don’t pick or scratch your face: Picking or scratching your face can damage the skin and lead to infection. So, it’s important to resist the urge to pick or scratch at any dryness, redness, or irritation you may experience after dermaplaning.
Don’t book other facial treatments for two weeks: Other facial treatments, such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion, can irritate the skin after dermaplaning. So, it’s best to wait at least two weeks before booking any other facial treatments.
Do not engage in any strenuous physical activity: Strenuous physical activity can cause excessive sweating, which can lead to irritation and breakouts. So, it’s best to avoid working out or engaging in any other strenuous activity or exercise for at least 24 hours after dermaplaning.
