About

Many years ago, when I was about 17, I had a summer job with a fascinating and very beautiful woman and her family who all lived a completely natural, organic and holistic lifestyle in a house that always had the most amazing fragrance running through it.
One day she handed me a pot of comfrey to use on a blemish and thus began my passion for natural skincare, essential oils and the benefits of holistic therapies for inner and outer wellbeing.

My passion for skincare began then with my own skin routine, I searched out the natural products available in the 'health shops' that were around at the time and learned all I could about what was best for my skin, avoiding the harsh ingredients that were in so many ranges then.

It wasn't until many years later, after I'd had my children in the '90's that I started my formal training, achieving qualifications over the years in massage, reflexology and beauty therapy. I gained experience with roles in healthcare, beauty and the skincare industry working in salons and spas and have trained with various reputable skincare brands in their products and treatments.

The two major influences in my career were the 5 years I spent working for Neal's Yard Remedies, where I learnt an invaluable amount about natural remedies and skincare and complementary therapies and the 4 years I spent with Clarins, both as a skincare specialist manager and therapist. Clarin's training courses and protocols are second to none and gave me the skills and confidence to become the therapist I am today.

I took the decision in 2017 to start my own business and now work two days a week from my home treatment oasis of calm, The Rose Room. The rest of my working week is spent as a Complementary Therapist for the NHS where I am part of the professional healthcare team on a specialist oncology and haematology ward, as part of the palliative care team and at the Priscilla Bacon Hospice.

Info

When I started my self-employed journey I rented space in salons, this was a great way to build a client base, run my own diary and work with some lovely, like-minded business people to be inspired by and share ideas with. I was when I decided to open my home treatment room that my mission and vision really came into its own.. These are the things that I love about my room and business and feel really benefit you, my valuable clients! My Space - my room is in my home, so it’s truly an extension of my personality, my decor, my energy, my happy place and this is what I aim to pass on to you, a safe, happy place, an oasis of calm where you can truly relax and leave the world behind for a while. Time - my time with you is your time, to be spent in your way, if you want to chat, we’ll chat, if you don’t, then that’s fine too. I never run back to back, I leave enough time between clients to listen and talk (in that order..) and can tailor treatments to suit mind, body and spirit. My treatment timings are hands on times, if you book a 60 minute treatment that is what you will get on the couch. My Treatments - my aim is to provide spa-inspired, relaxing treatments. With my experience working with luxury brands I have learnt tips and tricks along the way, extra touches that make your treatment special and unique. I get to choose which treatments I offer, which means I have been able to tailor my business to the treatments I love and believe in, ensuring you get a skilled and confident therapist and each treatment is given with good energy and love. My Products - I get to choose which products I use in my business. My ethos is to use products with quality ingredients derived from nature and 100% natural essential oils, effective and therapeutic for mind and body. I make sure everything I use is ethical, cruelty free and environmentally friendly. My Recommendations - I will always recommend products to my clients, I wouldn’t be doing my job properly if I didn’t, but I will only recommend something that I truly believe will benefit you and help you with your concerns. Homecare is very important to me, I don’t believe you should leave my treatment room and that’s that until the next appointment! So what have I got for you at The Rose Room? I have my time and my experience and knowledge. I have a cosy, quiet room with its own entrance and private parking space. I have low lighting, relaxing music (or no music if you prefer), soothing aromas and a heated couch with soft blankets I have beautiful products, all chosen for their therapeutic and effective results. I look forward to seeing you soon!

When I was deciding on a skincare brand to use in my business I had very strict criteria..It was important that I stayed true to my own personal values. I wanted a brand that was British, well-established, family run, ethical and passionate about natural skincare, harnessing the power of aromatherapy and botanical extracts to enhance skin and wellbeing. I also wanted a professional brand, with the therapists at the heart of the business, to give me support and knowledge to enable me to be confident that I was treating you, my clients, to the very best treatments and products. Eve Taylor fitted the bill, established over 60 years ago, the lady herself, a pioneering aromatherapist, still works in the business with her two sons. The products are cruelty free, use only the highest quality Ingredients including pure natural essential oils. The majority of the range is also vegan. Some of the products I use are professional only, meaning your treatment is a unique and tailored experience, exclusive to the treatment room. Of course there is a fantastic range of retail products to enable you to maintain the results we achieve in your treatment. They can only be purchased from professional therapists and salons which means you are assured of the authenticity and quality. So important to me is that not only do the products give fantastic, effective results but the powerful, botanical essences ensure your treatment is a truly holistic, therapeutic experience.
Unique aromatherapy blends, combined with powerful products enable me to offer sensorial treatments that can soothe or uplift, invigorate or replenish, leaving you feeling pampered and your wellbeing enhanced.

Payment methods - I accept cash, bank transfer and card payments. For card and bank transfer I will send you a payment link or you can scan a QR code at your appointment.

If you know someone who would love a treatment with me ask for a Refer a Friend card. So much more than just the application of products, my Aroma Spa Facials are luxurious treatments that address your skin concerns effectively as well as soothing your mind with expertly blended synergistic essential oil and plant based ingredients. The collective effects of a synergy become greater than the individual effects and offer highly therapeutic and effective benefits to both the skin and the senses. Pre-warmed products are applied with my expert tactile techniques, each chosen for their benefits to your individual needs for both body and mind. The addition of hot and cold basalt stones or Gua Sha crystals for the massage adds another dimension to this holistic facial experience. Facials help to: ~Stimulate the blood flow, which aids the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the skin, this then aids cellular regeneration which in turn promotes a more youthful complexion. ~Deep cleanse the skin, my double cleanse using gentle facial cleansing brushes which enable a more effective cleansing action than using fingers alone, leave your skin deep-down clean. ~Aid the drainage of toxins and lymph from the skin, reducing puffiness and dullness. ~Release muscle and jaw tension, which can help tension headaches. ~Improve the texture of the skin, promoting radiance. ~Maintain the tone of underlying muscle, which can help prevent lines. ~Plump and sculpt the face, jaw line and neck. ~Deeply relax and calm the mind, helping to reduce stress and anxiety.

Regular facials, together with a tailored home care routine which takes into consideration your desired results and lifestyle can truly transform your skin!

Gua Sha is a type of therapeutic massage technique using tools made of rose or clear quartz and jade for the face and scalp and stainless steel for the shoulders, back and neck. It has been practised in China for thousands of years, ‘Gua’ means to scrape or rub, and ‘Sha’ describes the temporary redness that results. The boost to your micro circulation during a gua sha facial massage floods the skin with fresh nutrients, over time boosting levels of collagen and elastin. Done regularly, it smooths and plumps the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Gua sha is also great for reducing puffiness and congestion, by gently encouraging the movement of lymphatic fluid, which can’t flow by itself. Gua sha releases tension in facial muscles and soothes sore eyes and skin, making your complexion look brighter and generally more radiant. There are 43 muscles in the face and you would be surprised at how much tension we store in them! Using a gua sha tool allows deeper work into the muscles and fascia than by using fingers alone and activates acupressure points along the 12 meridian lines in your face. The body gua sha tool is thinner because your body benefits from a little more intensity. Used as part of a back, neck and shoulder massage the tool is used to press-stroke the skin until the red ‘sha’ appears, this indicates the areas of tension, or heat, which are then worked more deeply. I use a jade comb on the head and scalp, which stimulates the body’s meridians, increases circulation, delivering more nutrients to the hair follicle, which promotes hair growth, head massage is also an excellent stress reliever. This tool can also be used on the body to boost lymphatic drainage, making it effective for water retention and cellulite. I trained in and use the Hayo’u Method of gua sha which was founded by Katie Brindle, a Chinese medicine practitioner with over 20 years clinical experience. Katie suffered a car accident in her early 20’s and was in constant pain, she found Chinese medicine, in the form of acupuncture and tui na massage, was the only treatment to help her, thus starting her journey as a practitioner. She discovered Yang Sheng, meaning ‘nurture life’ which is the Chinese concept of self care and developed the Hayo’u Method. All of the tools that I use in my treatments are available for self-care and can be used at home for simple but effective daily rituals.

Medical texts dating back thousands of years, from regions such as India, China and Egypt, provide instruction on massage and talk of its role in the maintenance of health and wellbeing. Hippocrates, the “father of medicine” said about massage and its importance as a skill for doctors that, “The physician must be experienced in many things, but assuredly in rubbing”. Massage, he maintained, could loosen tightness, but also add tone where there was coldness and weakness in muscles. Depending on the speed and type of strokes used, massage could also calm and relax, or invigorate and energise. Within my role as a Complementary Therapist in a palliative, oncology and haematology setting for the NHS, I have first hand experience of the power of touch, albeit the lightest of touch for these patients, and the difference it can make to support their wellbeing.

What are the benefits of massage for you? ~Manipulating tissues has a stimulating effect on the circulation of blood and lymph, which in turn helps to oxygenate tissues all over the body, distribute nutrients to each cell and support the efficient remove of waste. ~The increase in local circulation to the area that is being massaged also has a warming effect that relieves muscular tension and chronic pain. ~Improved circulation can have a profound impact on our health and wellbeing. ~The relaxing effects of massage support healthy blood pressure. ~The release of tension in the body stimulates and strengthens the immune system, helping to build resistance to illness and increase its ability to ward off infections. ~Massage has the ability to increase mobility and flexibility. ~Regular massage acts as a preventative tool, by easing muscular tension and aiding relaxation it can help to prevent physical pain and also release psychological tension and emotions that can manifest as physical symptoms. ~Massage has a naturally uplifting effect, touch boosts the body’s levels of oxytocin, serotonin dopamine, the feel good hormones. ~Massage can improve self-esteem, promote a sense of balance and harmony in body and mind. ~Massage can ease the symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression. ~Massage helps to promote good-quality, restful sleep and a sense of comfort that leads to enhanced wellbeing.

Aromatherapy is one of the most accessible and widely used natural remedies and holistic effects of essential oils are particularly relevant to conditions associated with modern-day living, such as stress, anxiety and depression. Essential oils can be used to great effect in massage, where they are both inhaled, immediately stimulating the olfactory centre in the forebrain, and also absorbed through the skin, where the circulate around the body in the bloodstream, supporting and enhancing the relaxing, invigorating and healing benefits of the massage. I will generally use Eve Taylor’s pre-blended oils as I know they are expertly hand blended to meet specific needs. However, as a qualified aromatherapist, I can put together a specific blend if required. You can find out more about essential oils and how they work in the Aromatherapy tab of the website. Holistic Aromatherapy Massage is a deeply relaxing and restorative style of massage. It incorporates slow rhythmical strokes, grounding holds, gentle stretches and petrissage to help you unwind, let go of stress and restore balance to mind and body.

There is a long history of using stones in healing and massage. In China, India, North and South America, Africa, Europe and Egypt, the traditional use of stones includes practices such as placing them in patterns on the body, wearing stones to help improve health, or using stones in the treatment of pain and illness. Today’s hot stone massage derives from a practice called LaStone Therapy, started in 1993 by Mary Nelson, a massage therapist from Arizona.

I use natural balsalt stones of different sizes which are heated to a comfortable temperature in stone heating bag. These volcanic stones have an exceptional ability to store heat and are moved smoothly over the skin with an aromatherapy oil to melt away tension and deeply warm muscles. The heat from the stones increases the pliability of muscles, boosts blood supply to an area, reduces muscle contraction and helps relieve pain and tension. Hot stones also enhance lymph flow, remove toxins and fortify the immune system. When used in a facial, hot stones help to relieve tension from muscles of the face, neck and shoulders, all of which tend to carry a great deal of unconscious tension that can lead to stiffness, headaches and jaw tension. It can also help to relieve sinus congestion, improve circulation and calm the nervous system. I also incorporate cold stones into the facial which work to lift and tone the facial muscles.

Indian Head Massage, also known as Champissage,is an ancient healing practice that originated more than 1000 years ago, and is part of the Indian practice of Ayurveda. Just like all other practices and healing techniques based under Ayurveda, Indian Head Massage is based on promoting the wellbeing of mind, body and spirit. In 1973 a native Indian, Narendra Mehta brought this treatment to the Western world and, after years of extensive research, Indian Head Massage was introduced as a new therapy at the Mind, Body and Spirit exhibition in 1981.

The many benefits of Indian Head Massage are: ~Relieving tension that can result in headaches, migraines, neck and back pain ~Stimulating lymphatic drainage and detoxifying the body ~Boosting overall immunity ~Improving circulation, which can increase energy levels ~Promoting clarity and increasing concentration ~Soothing symptoms of asthma by calming the respiratory system ~Relieving tension in the jaw ~Increasing muscle tone ~Relieving symptoms of sinusitis ~Helping with restlessness and insomnia ~Aiding symptoms of anxiety and depression ~Relieving stress and promoting relaxation ~Increasing feelings of peace, calm and wellbeing ~Boosting memory capabilities ~Stimulating hair growth

Your treatment will begin with a breathing exercise and continue with massage of the arms, shoulders, neck, scalp and face, using a variety of techniques, pressures and stretches. I will use therapeutic essential oil blends for the massage and coconut oil for the scalp. The treatment is carried out on my heated couch, under a cosy blanket and requires removal of the top part of clothing and any hair bands, clips and slides from your hair. I would advise bringing a brush or comb as you may need it afterwards!

Reflexology is a safe and effective holistic therapy that helps to restore balance and activate the body’s own natural healing abilities. It was developed in the mid-to-late twentieth century by Eunice Ingham but the principles behind it date back thousands of years. As a reflexologist I will apply pressure to stimulate reflex points on the feet or hands which correspond to all the structures, tissues, organs, glands and systems of the body. The aim is to restore balance, promote better overall physical and emotional well-being whilst also focusing on specific areas where problems are identified. Reflexology is a deeply relaxing treatment but a very effective one too, the potential benefits are: ~Promoting general relaxation and reducing stress and anxiety. ~Boosting the immune system. ~Helping to improve the quality of sleep. ~Helping to release endorphins and serotonin, contributing to feelings of well-being, happiness and relieving pain. ~Encouraging better circulation of blood and lymph. ~Encouraging the elimination of waste products and toxins and soothing the digestive system.

For your reflexology treatment you will be comfortably reclined on my couch with a pillow and cosy blanket with just your feet and lower legs exposed. I always begin your treatment with hot mitt cleanse and exfoliation, the reflexology will be carried out with a blend of tailored essential oils and we will conclude with a soothing foot and lower leg massage.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki was founded by Milano Usui in the 1920’s and is a safe, gentle and non-intrusive treatment administered by ‘laying on hands’ and is based on the idea that an unseen ‘life force energy’ flows through us and, if this is low, we are more likely to get sick or feel stress and, if high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words - Rei which means ‘God’s wisdom or the Higher Power’ and Ki which is ‘life force energy’. So Reiki is actually ‘spiritually guided life force energy’ although you do not need to have any religious beliefs to benefit from the practice, Reiki is ‘neutral’. Reiki energy is said to help re-balance the whole person in mind, body and spirit and each person will experience it differently depending on their individual needs at the time. The many potential benefits of Reiki include: ~A deep sense of relaxation, to help you to de-stress ~Promotes the free flow of energy throughout the body ~Improves the quality of sleep ~Improves mood and self-awareness ~Promotes feelings of calm, peace and well-being ~Increased energy levels ~Helping you to cope with physical or emotional difficulty

During your Reiki treatment you will lie on the treatment couch fully reclined, supported by pillows to allow you to feel comfortable and fully relaxed and covered with a soft blanket to cocoon you in warmth. Tranquil music and an appropriate essential oil blend will help you to deeply relax as you close your eyes. You will be fully clothed throughout the treatment (unless it is part of a Spa Ritual in which case you will be fully swathed in enough blankets to keep you warm). I will place my hands on or near various parts of your body including head, torso, knees and feet to allow the energy to channel to you. Everyone responds differently to Reiki, you may feel heat from my hands or tingling, you may see colours, feel like you are floating or very heavy or feel no sensation at all, it is quite normal to fall asleep! You may have an emotional reaction and this is perfectly normal too, it indicates that shifts are taking place, allowing balance to be restored.

The M Technique was created by Dr Jane Buckle RN PhD and is not massage but a method of structured touch and holistic communcation. It has been described as ‘physical hypnotherapy’ and a ‘spiritual dance’ and was developed for when massage is inappropriate, for example, in healthcare, when the patient is very fragile or critically ill.
Research has shown that the M Technique has a measurable effect on the parasympathetic nervous system. It can be done with or without oil, through clothes and whilst sitting in a chair or wheelchair. Although a full body treatment, each part of the sequence can be offered alone depending on accessibility and appropriateness for the patient/client. The M Technique differs from massage in three fundamental ways: ~It uses a set pressure. On a scale of 1-10 where 0 is no pressure and 10 is crushing pressure, the M Technique uses a 3 and this never differs. ~Each stroke is repeated three times. The rationale for this is that the first time the receiver will pay attention, the second time they will recognise the stroke and the third time they know what is going to happen and will begin to relax. ~The M Technique follows a set sequence that is never modified. Although originally developed for a healthcare setting, the M Technique is a wonderful treatment for anyone as it encourages a deep state of relaxation and is ideal for anyone needing some stress relief or who may be feeling emotionally fragile and requires a light touch. In my role as a Complementary Therapist in acute Oncology, Haematology and Palliative care I have witnessed first hand the benefits this technique has for our critically unwell patients. I offer this treatment as a mobile service for clients unable to visit my treatment room, please contact me for details.

Elim is a medical grade treatment which uses state-of-the-art ingredients to remove hard skin and calluses from the feet. Traditional methods for hard skin removal such as filing, blading and harsh granular exfoliants offer a short term solution, but do not provide a sustainable approach to skin health. Harsh exfoliants can cause discomfort and irritation due to irregular size particles and the use of salt will dehydrate skin. Filing and blading sends a message of trauma to the brain via neural pathways causing overproduction of skin cells which leads to excessive hard skin and the formation of calluses. Elim uses alkaline peeling as a safer and more efficient alternative, the active ingredients used in chemical peels change the pH of he skin, breaking down the protein bonds that bind together the dead skin cells of the epidermis. Hard skin and calluses are effectively treated without stimulating a healing response leading to overproduction of the epidermis. Elim products are environmentally friendly and cruelty free, as well as the necessary active ingredients in the callus removal tonic they contain skin softening and soothing aloe vera, jojoba, calendula, volcanic ash, honey, arnica, ginger, sunflower and oat protein and pure essential oils. Although an effective treatment, an Elim Mediheel is still a relaxing and luxurious one! You will enjoy a foot and lower leg exfoliation removed with steamy, aromatic hot mitts, a foot mask with a hot soak removal containing rosemary, geranium and tea tree and a tension releasing and relaxing foot massage to leave your feet nourished and protected. The treatment concludes with a cuticle oil containing calendula, arnica and citrus essential oils and a fragrant gold shimmer spritz. What can an Elim Mediheel help with? ~Cracked heels ~Fungal infections ~Tired feet ~Foot odour ~Dry feet ~Blisters/corns ~Peeling skin ~Poor circulation ~Athletes foot ~Perspiration prone feet

I also offer a Medihand treatment as an add-on to a longer treatment. This includes an illuminating nail cleanse, fragrant hot mitt exfoliation, hand mask with heated mitts and a soothing and relaxing hand and lower arm massage. Concludes with cuticle oil and gold spritz. Elim Medihand can help with: ~Brightening skin and improving texture ~UV damage and pigmentation ~Dry, lack lustre skin ~Dry, damaged or inflamed cuticles ~Dehydrated skin

Elim Medihand is a beautifully relaxing treatment and the perfect add-on to a facial.
