Reflexology can often highlight an area that seems to be out of balance, but it does NOT diagnose anything. Only doctors are allowed to make diagnoses. Sometimes, the reflexologist might encourage you to visit your GP if you are feeling unwell, but they will never diagnose a condition. Try to rest for a couple of hours following treatment and avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day as this will help the treatment work to its full potential. Avoid tea, coffee, and alcohol as these are stimulants and will reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. An emotional release can happen when a patient experiences a strong emotional reaction during the session and sometimes consciously revisits a past trauma. A physical response may follow, e.g., tears. After such a release, often an immediate positive life change takes place. Occasionally, people can experience a 'healing reaction' as the body responds to the treatment; this can include tiredness, a headache, or going to the toilet. If you have any questions about what to do or not do after a massage, please ask your massage therapist.

When pressure is applied to muscles during a massage, it can trigger the release of both physical and emotional tension. Avoid taking hot baths or showers. When in the shower or a bath, the surface of the skin has increased blood circulation, which after a massage can lead to surface congestion. If you are suffering from a muscle injury, it will increase inflammation. If you have any questions about what to do or not do after a massage, please ask your massage therapist.
