Reiki is a gentle yet powerful energy healing practice that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It was founded by Mikao Usui, whose teachings form the basis of the Usui system of Reiki that is widely practiced today.
The word “Reiki” translates to “universal life energy”—the natural energy that flows through all living things. During a Reiki session, this energy is channelled through the practitioner to support the body’s own ability to restore balance on a physical, emotional, and energetic level.
Reiki is deeply relaxing and non-invasive, making it suitable for everyone. Many people experience a sense of calm, clarity, and inner peace during and after a session. It can help to reduce stress and anxiety, support emotional well-being, improve sleep, and encourage the body’s natural healing processes.
Each session is a unique and intuitive experience, offering you a safe and nurturing space to slow down, reconnect, and restore harmony within yourself.
When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed into a calm, nurturing space where we’ll begin with a gentle conversation about your reasons for coming. You’re invited to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable—this is your time.
You’ll then be invited to lie down fully clothed, and I’ll ensure you’re as comfortable as possible with blankets, pillows, and optional eye masks. If you find it difficult to switch off, headphones are also available—these are noise-cancelling and play soothing music to help you fully relax.
During your Reiki session, experiences can vary. You may notice sensations such as warmth or coolness, tingling, gentle waves of energy, or even seeing colours. Some people feel deeply relaxed or drift into a meditative state. It’s also completely normal not to feel any specific sensations—your body is still receiving exactly what it needs. At times, Reiki can gently support emotional release, which is all part of the process.
At the end of your session, you’ll be given time to slowly come round and get up at your own pace. We’ll spend a few moments reflecting on your experience, and I’ll share anything I intuitively picked up during the session.
Before you leave, I’ll offer some simple aftercare suggestions to help you continue to feel the benefits of your treatment.
There’s no right or wrong when it comes to how often you receive Reiki—it’s a very personal choice and will depend on a variety of factors, including your reason for coming and what feels manageable within your lifestyle.
Some clients choose to come fortnightly, others monthly, and some less often. You are always welcome, whatever rhythm works best for you.
If you’re new to Reiki or working through something specific, starting with fortnightly sessions can be a beautiful way to build momentum and support deeper shifts. From there, many clients move into regular monthly sessions as a way to maintain balance.
These monthly “top-ups” can help to gently clear energetic blockages and support your energy to flow more freely, allowing you to feel more aligned, grounded, and at ease in your day-to-day life.
